VIRTUAL EVENT – Join us for a presentation by Sharon Austin that examination of the social and political relationships among African Americans and people of black Caribbean descent. Other topics include Haitian political behavior, general African American political behavior, and the history and politics of black women. This program is a partnership between the Florida Humanities and the Lake Wales History Museum. VIRTUAL EVENT – An exploration of the history of race in the United States, how race impacts specific events such as the infamous Trayvon Martin shooting and its implications on other issues, including standardized testing, school suspension, and the criminal justice system.

The Lake Wales History Museum will present the 45th Annual Pioneer Days Festival, which is a celebration of Lake Wales’ history and heritage. Located along the shores of Lake Wailes Park, the free community festival features a heritage village that includes dozens of historical demonstrations of pioneer camps and early American trades.
